The University of Strathclyde | A brief overview

Strathclyde’s cutting-edge research and close relationships with business, industry, and government organizations make it the University of choice for an increasing number of researchers and students. Strathclyde University is a leading international technological university. Founded in 1796, The University, as a place of ‘useful learning,’ remains dedicated to research, teaching, useful learning, and employability. There is close engagement with industry through industrial placements for students and research facilities such as the £89m Technology & Innovation Centre, which the Queen inaugurated in 2015. This facility is changing how academics, industry, and government collaborate in areas such as energy, health, sustainable cities, and manufacturing.

According to the Times Higher Education’s REF2014 analysis, it is among the top 20 universities in the UK for research intensity. Strathclyde has a triple-accredited business school (AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS) as well as one of Scotland’s largest and best-equipped engineering faculties. Strathclyde University will open a new £31 million sports facility in the autumn of 2018 and will begin construction on a £60 million Learning and Teaching Hub.

The University has a vibrant international community with students from more than 100 countries, and it is investing £650 million in its campus over a ten-year period. Campus

Named after the university’s founder, The John Anderson campus is home to the University of Strathclyde. It is a large self-contained campus close to the city center, with numerous student union and sports facilities such as football and rugby pitches, as well as indoor badminton courts and gym facilities. 

The campus’ proximity to Glasgow city center also allows for easy access to the city’s various activities, as well as extensive transportation links. In addition, the campus has nearly 2,000 rooms for accommodation, primarily for first-year undergraduates.

The university offers a wide range of subjects, with a particular emphasis on technological and scientific studies. Strathclyde’s research offerings are also important, with key focuses on health, manufacturing, and energy, among others. A wide range of partnerships with businesses and other higher education institutions, both within and outside the UK, are also available.

Courses

Strathclyde has 14,000 undergraduate students from over 100 countries, with 80% living on or near campus in the heart of Glasgow. This University provides a flexible, innovative learning environment and a first-rate student experience. It has received the highest possible ratings for teaching quality in the QAA review. You will have access to interactive classrooms, digital design facilities and labs, top-tier engineering simulators, multi-million-pound chemical engineering facilities, laser and photonics facilities, campus-wide wireless internet access, and numerous computer labs as a Strathclyde student. There are exchange opportunities available all over the world, for which students receive full academic credit without the need for additional study.

First-rate IT services support the undergraduate experience, including more than 1,500 campus PCs in more than 30 labs. A dedicated 24/7 IT helpdesk, access to MyPlace, a virtual e-learning environment, and a mobile app for information on the go.

Approximately 45,000 university students study part-time in the evenings, on weekends, and via distance learning. Approximately 4,000 of its students are mature students, and nearly 10% are international students from over 100 countries.
