The University of Northampton | The changemaker university
The University of Northampton (UON) is one of the UK’s youngest universities, but it is already setting the standard for adding value to society and creating social impact. UON received numerous awards for its work in this area, but what matters most to the university is that its students and graduates have the opportunity to leave their mark on the world as well. UON was the first university in the UK that got the designation of a Changemaker Campus in 2012.
The university wants to redefine what higher education can be. This has led to the creation of a completely new university from the ground up, one that is designed to reflect how you actually learn rather than how you are expected to learn. The Waterside campus first opened its doors in September 2018 and started its journey. Its dedication to changing lives and inspiring change is at the heart of everything it does. UON wants to make sure that your time in the university enables you to change your life and the lives of others, no matter how big or small.
The University of Northampton | A brief overview
The University of Northampton is one of the UK’s newest universities, located in an ancient market town steeped in the nation’s social, political, and industrial history.
Since its inception, it has rapidly established a reputation for innovative teaching, as well as a long-standing reputation among students for supportive, high-quality instruction. It uses technology to shift the focus from knowledge acquisition to the application of knowledge and skills. This means that rather than being lectured, you will benefit from meaningful interactions with tutors in seminars, tutorials, and workshops.
The university has enabled its students to study and work wherever, whenever, and with whomever they want by leveraging newer technologies that inject interest and flexibility into theoretical practices of learning. Seminars and workshops provide a deeper, more meaningful relationship with lecturers and professors, as well as more time to explore, challenge, and question, while still allowing for individual support, advice, and guidance.
The University of Northampton is proud to offer a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs across three faculties- Business and Law, Arts, Science, and Technology, and Health, Education, and Society.
Campus
In 2018, the University of Northampton built a new Waterside campus to replace its former Avenue and Park campuses. The older campuses are used as student residence halls, with approximately 16,000 rooms equipped with all basic necessities. The Waterside campus student village is the new main residence hall on the bank of the River Nene in Northampton Waterside.
The main sites of the University of Northampton are the Waterside Campus, Avenue, and Park Campuses, as well as the Innovation Center. The newly built Waterside campus adds to the College’s motto of ‘Transforming Lives, Inspiring Change’ by providing high-quality housing and education.
Sports, societies, volunteering, and nightclubs are among the services provided by the completely independent Students Union, which is led by students for students.
Students Union provides convenient retail and goods for students, including student clothing. Union also provides many volunteering and working opportunities for students.
Under government guidance, students at the University of Northampton are asked to remain in their halls of residence due to COVID-19. At Waterside Campus, Town Centre, and Scholars Green Student Village, the University of Northampton provides a variety of residential facilities, including halls of residence and privately-owned housing.
Rooms are furnished with standard kitchen appliances, washing machines, a bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, bookshelf, recycling facilities, and WiFi access. Online applications are available for booking rooms with a key and damage deposit of 300 GBP.
Accommodation fees for 42 weeks range from 3,223 GBP to 7120 GBP depending on the hall and room type. There are a variety of accommodations available at Student Village, including small and large ensuites, single studios, accessible rooms, and standard singles.
To avoid traffic and pollution, the University of Northampton provides sustainable transportation options such as subsidized UNO buses and a Park and Ride facility.
