Following are the differences between IELTS and TOEFL:

While TOEFL is ONLY computer-based, IELTS is both paper and computer-based. So if you’re more comfortable taking an exam on paper, you can choose IELTS. The speaking section for these two exams is so different. In IELTS, you have to appear for a personal interview. This isn’t the case in TOEFL, where you can speak to the computer during your online test itself. They take TOEFL in standard American English. So if you’ve grown up watching English movies and binge-watch sitcoms even today, TOEFL might be for you. The essay they expect you to write in the TOEFL writing section is lengthier. It also demands a fast typing speed. On the other hand, if you type slow but have legible handwriting, you can go for TOEFL.
In IELTS, you have to give short answers, which is not the case in TOEFL. TOEFL requires you to attempt MCQ-type questions. The reading passages in TOEFL are also used to inform rather than entertain. This means that if you like reading non-fiction, news, etc., you will find this exam easier to attempt.

If you want to have a more comprehensive idea about the differences between TOEFL and IELTS, then read this blog: TOEFL vs. IELTS

First things first, do thorough research on the IELTS exam pattern. IELTS has 4 sections:

      Listening
      Reading
      Writing
      Speaking
Nailing every section needs different strategies.
Begin by enhancing your reading abilities by reading articles, etc. For the speaking section, practice by
recording yourself while you speak on a topic. This will help you notice your mistakes. For the listening section, practice every type of question that comes in the IELTS
exam. It will make you familiar with the pattern. For writing, take timed practice tests, focus on expanding your language, lexical resource, etc.
You can read about some strategies here: All about the IELTS exam

PTE is a computer-based test designed to measure the English proficiency of non-native English speakers-

The PTE exam assesses a student’s listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities within a single, three-hour session Like TOEFL, PTE is inclined more towards American English But your PTE test scores will also get you an admit from colleges in Australia, UK, and Europe What’s more, the test is considered to be faster, fairer, and easy to take

All this is possible because the test is completely computerized and involves no human raters

      PTE-

PTE is a three-hour long test.
The main parts of the exam include speaking and writing (together), listening, and reading.
You will also have the option to take a 10-minute break between the reading and listening sections.

During the test, you will encounter 20 different question formats, ranging from multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and essay writing to interpreting and repeating information.

      Hey Shruti,

You should know about these English proficiency exams to make a good decision so here's some brief info about IELTS vs TOEFL vs PTE:

IELTS-English language proficiency test with 2 different modules- Academic(for higher education) and General (for those who wish to immigrate/work abroad)

TOEFL- An English test with strictly an academic module which is a major difference between IELTS and TOEFL.

PTE- Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a single consolidated test that includes both writing and speaking sections. The test is conducted entirely online.

Based on your future choices, you should choose between IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE, keep in mind that certain types of Australian visas need IELTS scores. For more information check this blog about IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE, out it will tell you the difference between these exams.

IELTS is an internationally recognized language-proficiency test for non-native English speakers, managed by the British Council and IDP. Studying for such competitive exam can be a difficult task. However, the official site of IELTS offers many sample papers for free that are highly helpful. You can also refer to various books or youtube videos that are available. You can find the sample papers here https://www.ielts.org/about-the-test/sample-test-questions. The IELTS British Council site also helps for the preparation test, check it here https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/prepare
