Is it possible to do an MBA in the U.S without GMAT scores ?

      Hey Tara,
While a majority of B-schools abroad do need GMAT scores, some universities don't require them and have other parameters for assessing your application. These colleges in the U.S that don't have a GMAT requirement are:

Northwestern University, Kellogg Duke Fuqua NYU Stern Smith
Although these colleges don't have a GMAT requirement, they expect students to have a good profile to compensate for the lower GMAT scores.

The GMAT is an online exam that you may write at any time of the year. It is generally used by universities that provide MBA degrees to asses you. It is a test that primarily assesses you based on your reasoning skills. This exam measures you based on your verbal, reasoning, mathematical and analytical skills. The GMAT syllabus and pattern remains the same throughout the year.
There are 4 sections to the test, them being:

Analytical Writing: You are generally asked questions based on a passage for which you must answer. Integrated Reasoning: This section tests your analytical skills by making you analyse tabular/graphical information. Quantitative Section: This section tests your fundamentals in mathematics such as geometry, simple equations etc. Verbal Reasoning: This section covers three sub sections, mainly Critical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Sentence Correction.

A GMAT score between 670 and 700 is really good. But if you want to get into the top-most ones, aim for above 700.

      Hi Natasha,
This is straight from the Graduate Management Admission Council (the GMAT Test Taker) -
"Our test-takers are our priority and to assist you during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have temporarily waived all exam cancellation, reschedule & score reinstatement fees for GMAT test-center based appointments. If you need to cancel, reschedule your appointment to another date/location, or if you have an existing GMAT score you would like to reinstate to finalize your application, you can do so at no charge."

A lot of factors go into making that decision-

Technical Requirements Environment Requirements Writing Materials Exam pattern

The pros of GMAT online are-

You can take it from home and control your environment You can send your scores to universities for free The test doesn't have an AWA section It's cheaper

The pros of regular GMAT are-

The environment and set up is ready for you at the test center All business schools are accepting these scores You'll get a break between quants and verbal sections You can re-take the test

You can read the details here.

The first thing to do is get in touch with the business school you want to apply to and make sure they’re accepting the scores of the GMAT Online Exam.
If they do, see if you have a quiet room, and the required system settings and writing materials needed to take the test.
For those who don’t have a quiet room or the required settings and materials, we suggest you wait. GMAT test centers have already started to reopen in some of the areas.

Use practice materials from Manhattan Prep, Kaplan, Magoosh, and GMAC
Watch YouTube videos for tips and tricks

      To register for your exam-

Create your mba.com account and log in to it. Click on the “Register Now” or “View Appointment Details” button. Select “GMAT Online Exam” and select your preferred appointment date and time. Once you have finalized your registration, you’ll have to pay a fee of $200 ($75 less than the regular GMAT exam fees) to book the appointment.

You can use the physical one for writing things you can refer to all the time
And for the quants section, you can use the online one
      Best of both worlds!

This section of the GMAT exam will have 2 sections-

Reading comprehension Critical reasoning Sentence correction

The verbal section of GMAT is easier than that of GRE because it doesn't focus as much on your vocab skills
Still, try out a few questions in this sample paper to see where you stand
