The TOEFL syllabus covers all components of the English exam, including writing, reading, listening, and speaking. The TOEFL Exam syllabus is meant to evaluate a candidate's diverse skills and measure their English language ability.

1 Syllabus

For the advantage of our applicants, we have included a complete TOEFL syllabus.

2 Reading Section

You will be expected to read 3-4 passages and answer 10 questions on each passage in this part. The number of correct reading comprehension responses determines the section's grade.

Question type: 

  • Fact and details.
  • Negative Factual.
  • Inference.
  • Rhetorical Purpose.
  • Vocabulary.
  • Reference.
  • Paraphrasing.
  • Insert Text
  • Summary

The total number of questions is around 40.

Time required: 54 to 72 minutes

3 Listening Section

You will hear both short and extended chats in this section. Following the brief interaction, you will be asked one question and given various options for responses. You must select one answer. 

  1. 3–4 lectures (3-5 minutes each, roughly 500–800 words each), 6 questions each; a total of about 30 questions

 

  1. 2–3 talks (about 3 minutes each, 12–25 exchanges), each with 5 questions; In total, there are about 12 questions.

There are more than 40 questions in all.

Time allotted: 41–57 minutes.

4 Speaking Section

To achieve a good score in the Speaking Section, your answers must meet the requirements of the work with only minor errors or slips. The examiners are seeking for a discourse that is both understandable and long-lasting. The section's score is determined by three key variables.

The TOEFL Syllabus includes the following speaking questions:

  1. One self-contained task (prep time: 15 sec; response time: 45 sec)

  2. Three intertwined tasks: read, listen to and speak (prep time: 30 sec; response time: 60 sec)

The total number of questions is four.

17 minutes in total.

5 Writing Section

A topic/idea should be effectively addressed in the essay. The response should be well-organized and well-developed, with pertinent explanations and supporting details. It should also have a sense of unity, progression, and cohesion. If you want to get good with Writing Section, make sure to show syntactic variation and acceptable word choice while avoiding silly grammatical mistakes.

The TOEFL Syllabus includes the following writing questions:

  1. Read/Listen/Write (20 minutes) (reading time: 3 minutes; listening time: 2 minutes; writing time: 15 minutes)

  2. 1 self-contained task (30 minutes)

The total number of questions is two.

Time duration: 50 minutes.

6 How do I start preparing for TOEFL?

There are two ways to prepare for the TOEFL exams, candidates can either go for the self-study option or can go for TOEFL coaching. However, it is important to be aware of the subject matter and the coaching class before you proceed.

Q. How can I pass the TOEFL?

A. The TOEFL test cannot be failed; nevertheless, if your TOEFL score falls below the university's requirements, you will need to retake the test to improve your score. Applicants should be aware that higher test scores will qualify them for a variety of options. Candidates should keep in mind that preparation is essential for a good test score.

A. The TOEFL test can be taken as many times as the candidate desires, but a re-test must be taken within three days of the initial attempt. 

Q. How many hours is the TOEFL test?

A. To complete the entire TOEFL test it takes around three hours, but it is advised to prepare for 3.5 hours so you get 30 minutes to check in.
