This course is designed to provide a hands-on approach to addictions counseling and substance abuse disorders. In order to properly counsel clients with substance abuse disorders, students must understand the issues these clients face on a daily basis. The program provides students with a working knowledge of the methods and findings of modern psychology. Students are prepared to work in a wide variety of settings, including human services counseling and social work, public affairs, business, sales, criminal justice, and following graduate study psychotherapy, teaching and research.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to graduate from this program students must complete five ABE courses. Normally, at least three of these courses would be taken at VIU (or another post-secondary institution), and at least one of these courses MUST be taken at VIU in order for students to be eligible for the BCAGD offered through VIU.
