1. Set your study goal

To set this goal, ask yourself why you are studying. Know what drives you, and use it as the force that helps you reach your goal. This will help plan your schedule and stay motivated enough to achieve that goal.

2. Make a weekly/daily timetable 

Apart from knowing your end goal, you can make a weekly/daily timetable for your studies. To do so, take some time at the start of the day and create your timetable. By doing this in the morning rather than the night before, you can take your mood into account. Don’t overpack your schedule and fall for planning fallacy

Create a timetable that best fits you. If you work well with a detailed timetable, then that is the way to go. If a rough timetable helps you stay on track, then that will be the best course of action. Remember to take breaks and have some time off to concentrate on your studies better.

It’s easy to say ‘just one message’ or just ’10 minutes.’ And in the blink of an eye, 3 hours have passed. To avoid this situation, it’s best to remove the distraction itself. 

If you don’t want to keep your phone in another room,  keep it on a ‘do not disturb’ mode and switch your net off. If you need the internet for your work, turn all notifications off for the duration. And don’t forget to keep your phone face down before studying.

5. Look for a suitable study location

Finding a perfect study location is very important to increase your concentration on studies. It may not always be possible to have a room for yourself, so it’s advisable to create a space of your own. 

To improve concentration on studies, choose a space that calms you, gets you in the right headspace, and doesn’t attract much noise. 

If you need to use your laptop, ensure that you sit near a power outlet so that you do not have to break your flow by getting up and searching for one.

6. Find a comfortable seating arrangement

Many times while studying or working, we hunch, which negatively affects our posture. Slouching compresses the space for our lungs, causing less oxygen to reach our brain. 

This can reduce how active and alert your brain is, which is why sitting up straight or having better posture can help you better concentrate on studies. 

To have good posture, you need good seating arrangements. Select a place that can offer a good posture for prolonged study sessions. A comfortable desk chair with lumbar support is a good choice.

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It helps you split your study sessions into small manageable chunks. 

The activity is simple- 

  • Select one study task
  • Set a timer for the session
  • Study until the timer goes off
  • Take a break
  • Repeat the cycle thrice

While you can decide what time range works for you, the Pomodoro Technique generally requires you to study straight for 25 minutes on a particular task without any interruption. You can take a 3 to 5-minute break as the timer goes off.

After three 25 + 5 minutes cycles, you can take a 30-minute break. The technique will keep you on track and help you increase concentration on studies drastically.

10. Use online tools

To concentrate on your studies and take each session to the next level, use the right tools. With ‘to-do list’ apps you can set weekly reminders of recurring study sessions. 

Some apps help you simplify your goals for the day and split them into actionable lists. You can also use music to influence your mental state. For some calming music will do the trick whereas for others rock or country may. Remember find and do things that help you out.

You can also try doing yoga to increase concentration on your studies. Start small and maintain good posture while exercising to not injure yourself.

If you don’t like exercising or yoga you can go on short walks. Choose an area with more greenery to put you in a better mood. You can even walk around your house to just get your body moving.
